What is william theophilus brown?

William Theophilus Brown was an American artist born in 1919 in Maysville, Kentucky. Brown was a member of the San Francisco Bay Area figurative art movement in the 1950s. He studied at the California School of Fine Arts (now known as the San Francisco Art Institute) and was a close friend of fellow artists Richard Diebenkorn and David Park. Brown's paintings depict the human figure and often feature solitary male nudes. He was influenced by classical art and the works of Michelangelo and Piero della Francesca. Brown passed away in 2012 at the age of 92.
